On 4 out of 6 event days the wind conditions were on with 15 to 30 knots and the PWA Race crew completed 11 eliminations for men and women. The Challenger boys were on their fast AERO+ racing sails, using sizes in 7.0m, 7.8m and 8.6m.
Maciek Rutkowski (POL-23), the super fast Polish pro qualified for the winners final in 7 out of 11 eliminations in the final PWA Slalom event, which was held at a new event spot and finished the season in 7th overall, with some top event results like the 5th in Noumea, a 3rd in Denmark and a 6th in Fuerteventura. He won eliminations in Denmark and in Noumea.
Maciek: “One might wonder what couldve been if I got a little less unlucky in France (21st) or if made one less mistake in Korea (25th). But the second part of the year was strong: 6th, 3rd, 5th. Fighting with all the big guns on a regular basis in all conditions was a super fun and enriching experience and the podium in Denmark was definitely a highlight. I’m lucky enough to know exactly what I did wrong and what I did right, so it’s clear what I need to improve and I can’t wait to start preparing for next year!”
Bruno Martini (ITA-160) impressed everyone in New Caledonia, where he made it twice into the winners final and finished in 4th place two times. Bruno improved his speed and now arrived in the top fleet. He already won a Slalom elimination in South Korea earlier in the season. The Italian finished the PWA Slalom season in 18th position and won the prestigious One Hour event at Lake Garda in 2019.
Bruno: “Another season is gone, where we conclude the last event really long and intense. I was able to be consistent almost until the end. I want to thank all my friends and sponsors for supporting me, and I’m already excited for the upcoming season 2020.”
Andrea Ferin, who didn’t travel to New Caledonia, is ranked 24th overall in the Slalom discipline 2019. Congrats to the good performance and the new record at the One Hour Foil event with the Challenger foil sails.
Big congratulations to Challenger racing team, who showed excellent performance on the highest level throughout the 2019 season and how good the AERO+ Slalom sails are working in all kind of conditions. Fingers crossed for 20.20. We wish a great winter time, good testing & development and solid trainings sessions. Plus relax and keep the fun!! We heard fantastic things from the R&D department around Claudio Badiali!!
